Google support techs weren't able to comment about any kind of limit, because I suspect that the engineers just manage their network dynamically. However, when I had users attempt to download 1 TB worth of footage, I started getting throttling error messages. While Google clearly documents that within G Suite, uploads are limited to 750 GB / user / day, they have no documentation about download limits. Shortly before everything started shutting down in the US, I had started to hit undocumented download limits with Google Drive. But the cost is I think $0.25/GB on the pay-as-you-go plan which can add up very quick ( ).įrame.io would be my next choice in terms of price/performance if it fits your workflow.Īfter that I would work out something more manual. Try to use the app and not the web interface, it has distinct advantages in processing speed. Again, better for tech savvy folks though.īut if you just need to get it done fast and without hassle, MASV maybe your best bet. If you use MacOS on both ends, the good old tar utility from Unix is super fast and very straight forward. There are 3rd party ZIP tools (like WinZip) that can be configured to just archive but not compress. But you will want to use something to package up folders or multiple files into a single file. Video assets cannot be further compressed, and doing so just slows everything down for no benefit. With MacOS there are simple commandlines to do that.Īnd be cautious with ZIP. You may have to come up with ways of splitting large files into chunks and re-assembling on the other end. Personally I use just a plain Amazon S3 bucket and Cyberduck. Their new pricing model encourages that as they are getting into all kinds of workflows like dailies, etc. But it's not cheap if cost is an issue.Īlso a lot of organizations now use frame.io for distribution, not just reviews. One tool that is specialized for this is MASV. I've had issues with WeTransfer recently. Also there have been reports that some of them too are slow. Especially files of 150GB+ can get complicated. But many of them have file size limitations. Google Drive is similar but I believe does perform better than Dropbox.Īlternatives are other platforms like WeTransfer, etc. Also depending how you set it up you may trigger background syncs, possibly to multiple systems creating unnecessary network traffic. For one Dropbox for some people is much slower than other tools and unable to saturate fast broadband connections. Generally speaking Dropbox is good for sharing with larger teams and clients, but is not as good for point to point transfers. There are many variables, some of it depends on your technical skills and willingness to tinker, and also how cost sensitive you have to be.
